Tyler Childers and Sierra Ferrell are the leading nominees at the 2024 Americana Honors & Awards. The Appalachia-reared musicians each scored three nominations — including Album, Song, and Artist of the Year — when the categories were announced on Tuesday at the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville.
Childers, a Kentucky native, is nominated for his album Rustin’ in the Rain and the song “In Your Love,” while the West Virginia native Ferrell is recognized for the album Trail of Flowers and the song “American Dreaming.”
Other Artist of the Year nominees include Charley Crockett, Noah Kahan, and Allison Russell. Brandy Clark’s self-titled album, Hurray for the Riff Raff’s The Past Is Still Alive, and Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit’s Weathervanes round out the Album of the Year field.
The Emerging Act of the Year category is always an interesting one to watch, and this year’s nominees lean hard into the Red Dirt renaissance and emo-country trend: Kaitlin Butts, Wyatt Flores, Charles Wesley Godwin, the Red Clay Strays, and Jobi Riccio are all nominated.
The winners of the 2024 Americana Honors & Awards will be announced during a ceremony at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville on Sept. 18. The Honors are the centerpiece of AmericanaFest, the annual gathering of roots-music artists and scholars in Music City, running Sept. 17 through 21.
